Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine the planning elements of the urban redevelopment, which could improve the city by preserving the historical, social and cultural values inherent in specific places in the city. The subject of this study is Okin-dong, Jongno-gu, where has preserved the historical and cultural heritage as an urban residence. The proposals of this study are as follows. First, in order to tighten the relationship between the buildings and the street, utilize the existing embankment three-dimensionally. Second, in order to integrate the physical order of the existing district and to secure the social order, apply the concept of the Block Unit Development based on the community street. The space based on this community street could maintain and preserve the memory of the place and its value.
